Ring In A Brooklyn New Year

Brooklyn’s biggest New Year’s Eve party with fireworks at midnight will take place at Grand Army Plaza, sponsored by Borough President Marty Markowitz and KeySpan.

Best locations for viewing the fireworks include: anywhere in Grand Army Plaza, inside the Park on the West Drive, and along Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and 9th Street. The best places to park are on Flatbush Avenue, Prospect Park West, and nearby side streets.

Revelers are asked to arrive early, around 11 p.m. and enjoy free R&B music, donuts and hot drinks, courtesy of Markowitz.

Those wanting to get a running start on the New Year can take part in a 3.3 Mile Fun Run around the Park, which begins at Grand Army Plaza at 11:15 p.m. More information at www.slopesports.com/event.html.

The following weekend, January 6 and 7, it’s time for Holiday Tree Recycling. Don’t throw away your holiday tree - bring it to the park between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and we’ll turn it into mulch for healthy ground cover. Please remove all decorations and bring your tree to any Park entrance. At Third Street you can watch your tree go into the chipper and take home some mulch for your yard or garden. This free event is co-sponsored by the Park Slope Civic Council.

Anyone can volunteer at Third Street & Prospect Park West, to assist people bringing their trees in for recycling and help remove ornaments and distribute mulch. Call 718-965-8960 for details.

For more information on Prospect Park events, programs, membership and volunteering at the park, call the Park Hotline at (718) 965-8999 or visit www.prospectpark.org.
