As of yesterday, eight new recruits have been assigned to the 69th Pre-cinct, part of the 1,359 officers who graduated from the Police Academy Tuesday. This will bring the total contingent of regular police officers assigned to the local precinct to 139.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, along with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, commissioned the officers in a ceremony where he enunciated the fact that the graduating class is diversified, with about 28 percent Hispanic, 17 per-cent black, 8 percent Asian, 48 percent white and 1 percent other ethnicities. Eighteen percent are female. Near-ly 90 percent of the graduates have had some college education, according to police sources.

Captain Ralph Monteforte, commanding officer of the 69th Precinct, addressed the new recruits and started them on their orientation within the post and the community.

Within the week, the recruits will be assigned to patrol duties and will receive their scheduled assignments. Charles Rogers
