Avenue L Merchants Association Throws Grand Holiday Party For Neighborhood Kids
Sponsored by the merchants, along with Congressman Ed Towns, Senator John Sampson, Assemblymembers Alan Maisel and Helene Weinstein and City Councilman Lew Fidler, as well as De Islands Restaurant, the event was held at the Bamboo Garden at 9505 Avenue L. Since there was no snow outside, wise old Santa thought it would be appropriate to arrive in something red, so he commandeered a fire truck from Engine 257, Ladder 170 and Battalion 58 from the Farragut Road Firehouse and was able to hand out toys to nice girls and boys (the naughty ones got a piece of coal).
