Local Clergy Members Meet With Precinct Commander
By Charles Rogers

Captain Monteforte shares his expertise on crime in area with local clerics by use of graphics. Charles Rogers
Every few months, Captain Ralph Monteforte, commanding officer of the 69th Precinct, sends out an invitation to all the members of the clergy whose houses of worship are located within the jurisdiction of the precinct.`

“The purpose of the meeting,” Captain Monteforte said, “is to keep our religious leaders informed about crime, logistics, different and advanced methods we are using, and which we will be using in the future, and generally keeping them up on what’s happening in the community.”

Greeted by more than a score of interdenominational clerics who lauded his efforts, the affable precinct commander, accompanied by Commu-nity Affairs Detective Dady Belfort, met with them on December 13 at the Foster Avenue station house.

On a large, central screen, he showed a number of graphics depicting recent crime statistics in areas around certain churches, synagogues and religious meeting places here.

Eager interdenominational clerics from local area shared their views and offered suggestions to Captain Monteforte as meeting drew to a close.
Explaining what has been done and what police are doing regarding certain cases, he added, “In some cases, we’ve already made arrests of suspects; in some, not. So we’re putting more manpower or increasing patrols in certain sections.”

As in previous meetings, the members of the clergy promised their cooperation wherever necessary and Cap-tain Monteforte assured them the pre-cinct officers would be available to them “anytime.”
