Lights Out On Rockaway Parkway

Dear Editor:

For as long as I can remember, the merchants on Rockaway Parkway have treated Canarsiens and those who walk or drive or shop along Rockaway Parkway to holiday lights. For the past few years, they seemed to go up here later than on other commercial streets in Brooklyn, but they eventually brighten dark December nights.

They were a “thank you” to the community, for their patronage during the year and, yes, an encouragement to do holiday shopping on the Parkway.

No lights this year. No thank you. No encouragement to shop. And no brightening of early December nights. Very sad.

I wonder why there are no holiday lights. Did they think nobody would notice? I noticed. I am sure others did as well. I plan to shop elsewhere this holiday season.

A Disappointed Resident
