What’s Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O’Neill

Question: Do you think the city should keep the current residency rule, created 20 years ago, requiring new hires – except police officers, firefighters and teachers – to live within City limits? Why?

“I feel as though if you work in the city, it’s good to live here. Sometimes when people come from outside the city, they have prejudices against city people. And they don’t really know what’s going on here.” “Mr. Rockaway Parkway” Steve L., Canarsie
“It’s okay to come from outside the city. But actually, it’s preferable to live in the area where you work because you’re more familiar with the needs of the people in the area” Glenn Verchick, Canarsie
“Yes, Ithink you should live and work in the city. A new employee by the city should live in the city. That’s to maintain the standards of the city. For sure. Keep the tax base in the city.” Kevin V., Canarsie
“Well, I think all city employees should live in the city. Obviously, it keeps the city at a higher living standard.” Michael O’ Sullivan, Long Island
