Annual Coat Drive Kicks Off
New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly (right) helped kick off the 18th annual New York Cares Coat Drive on Monday at the Bowery Mission in lower Manhattan where almost 100 homeless New Yorkers received a warm, winter coat. Joining the police commissioners were representatives of Heath Plus, the managed care organization which sponsors the yearly coat drive that distributes outerwear throughout the city at homeless shelters and community organizations.New Yorkers can donate new or gently used coats for adults and children through December at various locations in the five boroughs, including local police precincts.
