Arrest In October Beating Of Gas Station Attendant

Police have made an arrest in the beating of a local gas station attendant six weeks ago. Sources at the office of District Attorney Charles J. Hynes yes-terday confirmed a report that Baljit Singh, 25, was charged with assaulting his cousin, an attendant at the service station located at the corner of East 89th Street and Ditmas Avenue on Oct-ober 21.

Orlando Rivera, the D.A.'s spokes-man, confirmed information stating that Singh, along with his grandfather, whose name was not released, went to the station at about 10:30 p.m. and allegedly started a fight, punching and kicking the 18-year-old victim and striking him several times with a stick. They stopped the attack and fled when a customer drove into the station.

Police patrol officers from the 67th Precinct responded to a call from the victim. A report in yesterday's New York Post states that the "heartless" grandfather was contacted by the victim the day after the incident and the grandfather "chuckled" about the at-tack.

The grandfather was not cited, but Singh was charged with assault, menacing and weapons possession, said Rivera. Charles Rogers
