The driver of a car service vehicle who was being held up by a man who allegedly held a gun to his head Monday, lost control of his car and crashed into a truck, pinning the suspect in the car. Neither man was in-jured, but the alleged thief was arrested by 69th Precinct police as he tried to escape from the vehicle. Police did not disclose his name, but said he is an 18-year-old from Canarsie. They also said the weapon used in the holdup was a toy gun.
According to police sources, the driver of the taxi picked up "three or four" passengers in the vicinity of Nostrand Avenue and Foster Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, December 4 and had dropped off all except one man, who asked to go to East 85th Street and Foster Avenue. When they got to the location, the passenger displayed a handgun and demanded that the driver give him all his money.

As soon as the man announced the robbery, the nervous driver apparently stepped on the gas pedal, lost control of his car, and careened into the middle section of a box truck parked on Foster Avenue adjacent to the East 85th Street intersection, police said.
The driver was able to escape from the car right away, but the alleged thief was trapped in the back seat.
The driver and witnesses called 911 and police and firefighters ar-rived within minutes to see the 18-year-old squeezing out of the car.
They nabbed him at the scene and he was taken to the Foster Avenue station house and charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon (even though the gun was a toy, it was still considered a weapon in the robbery) and menacing.
