Sentence For Murderers Is Extended After Failed Escape The two men who kidnapped, tortured and murdered a Hunter College student in 2003 and received sentences of 25 years to life were given an added 22 years for trying to escape from a courtroom during their trial. Roy Hendrix, 22 and Kayson Pear-son, 24, terrorized the courtroom during their first trial by using make-shift plastic weapons, stabbing their own lawyer and trying to grab a court officer's gun. They were eventually subdued after the fight, during which seven court officers were injured. The disruption was so "traumatic" to the two juries on the cases, according to Supreme Court Justice Albert Tomei, that he called a mistrial. A short time later another trial was held and both defendants were found guilty of murder. Both Hendrix and Pearson took college student Ramona Moore, 21, to Hendrix' apartment on Kings Highway in East Flatbush in April, 2003 and repeatedly raped her after attacking her with a saw, hammer, barbell and knife, according to court records. Her body was discovered wrapped in a blanket a few weeks later. The defendants were picked up a month later, with Pearson being wound-ed in a shootout with the police who captured him.
