Letters To The Editor
Golden Memories Dear Editor:

Your weekly Little Old Canarsie articles showcasing the early days of the "Golden City" (as it was known then) continue to stimulate my "Golden" memories.

When I was 13, my cousin Gene Wanser, who had a band Combo Doing Jigs at Arcadia Hall, asked me to do a singing solo at the Hall. So the "Show Biz" talent of Mary Wanser permeated about as I sang, "You Can't Pull The Wool Over My Eyes" and another ditty I forget.

While there was a warm reception, I was no threat to Judy Garland or Deanna Durbin. Still, from all the coinage thrown at me, including the ovation, it was an unforgettable singing presentation. It could have been my audition for "American Idol". For which I thank "The Courier" for rekindling a happy moment.

Let Canarsie Shine!

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to the Avenue L Merchants Association and everyone for the beautiful holiday lighting and decorations that extend from Rockaway Parkway, west to Remsen Avenue.

And how about the holiday lights along the Rockaway Parkway shopping strip from Flatlands Avenue to Farragut Road this season?

Let Canarsie shine! Best holiday wishes to all. Thank you.

Local Resident

John Sacerdote
