Mural Memorializes Jet Ski Accident Victim
A huge mural was unveiled Monday morning that memorializes 17-year-old Paul Zaccaria, who was killed in a jet-ski accident on Jamaica Bay last summer. The victim's mother, Jo-Ann Zaccaria of Bergen Beach, was joined at the ceremony by family members, friends and a few local politicians. Zaccaria expressed her gratitude to State Assemblyman Alan Maisel, City Councilman Lew Fidler and Community Board 18 Chairman Saul Needle for their efforts in securing permission from the owner of the property at the southwest corner of Avenue U and Mill Avenue for allowing the mural to be painted by legitimate graffiti artist Joe Indart. The teenager's body washed up on shore across from his home on National Drive on August 6, five weeks after the crash. (Above left) Artist Joe Indart.
