Conservatory Invites Students To Audition For Scholarships

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music will offer nine full scholarships for studies in the Conservatory's Cer-tificate Preparatory Program as the result of a grant from the Van Lier Fellowship Fund.

The Preparatory Program is geared towards middle school and high school-aged students who are interested in a comprehensive classical or jazz music education. The scholarships will be open by audition to community members and Conservatory students aged 9-15. Candidates may perform on any instrument or voice in Classical or Jazz forms. Applicants will be asked to perform two contrasting solo pieces and should be prepared to play scales or other technical work.

Audition dates in Brooklyn are Tuesday, December 12, 6-8 p.m.; Friday, December 15, 6-9 p.m.; and Sunday, December 17, 4-6 p.m. Audi-tions must be scheduled by December 1 . Call 718-622-3300 to schedule an audition.

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, a division of Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music, is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit community schools of the arts in the nation. It provides music instruction for a wide range of abilities, levels, and age groups, yet remains affordable and accessible to the diverse communities it serves. The school works with more than 10,000 people each year, of all ages and backgrounds, through free and subsidized music instruction, educational programs in nearly 40 schools, and free and inexpensive concerts.

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is located at 58 Seventh Ave-nue, at Lincoln Place, and is accessible by the Q or B trains to Seventh Avenue, or the 2 or 3 trains to Grand Army Plaza.
