What's Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

Question: The city has started a pilot program where traffic signals will count down the number of seconds pedestrians have to cross the street before the light turns red. What do you think of this plan? And at which intersection(s) in Canarsie do you think these signals should be placed?
"I think it's a very good plan. Yes. As far as which intersections, Rockaway Parkway and Flatlands Avenue. All along Rockaway Parkway. It makes things safer for pedestrians. People know exactly how much time they have to cross the street." Miguel Santiago, Canarsie
"Yeah, it's a good idea. Lets you know exactly how much time you have before the light turns red. They should have it on Rockaway Parkway, Flatlands Avenue - the larger streets in Canarsie." Md Nazmul, Canarsie
"No, it's not a good plan for the simple fact that pedestrians don't have the time to analyze how long it takes to cross the street. It makes it dangerous for pedestrians. If they do have it, it should be by the bus depot on Rockaway Parkway." Victor Brown, Canarsie
"That's an awesome idea! It'll prevent a lot of accidents, create a better flow of transportation and it'll improve the quality of life, giving pedestrians better structure. It should be right where the buses are at Glenwood Road and Rockaway Parkway because it gets very busy." Steve Cordova, Canarsie
