Letters To The Editor
Don't Forget Our Veterans

Dear Editor:

On June 25, 1950, the term "Police Action" was introduced as North Korea made "warlike" gestures at South Korea. Thanks to the diplomacy of President Eisenhower, the action was satisfied in 1953.

Fighting to maintain the objectives of the Vietnam War, so many vets perished in the jungles or came home completely disoriented, thanks to President Nixon's declaration of "Cease and Desist".

The Persian Gulf War proved veteran's knowledge of the technology of modern warfare superior to that of Iraq. For them, the word surrender meant the same as ceded and Iraq did that in quick order.

Our veterans now on Iraq duty since the spring of 2003 displayed their military might bringing a quick ending to actual warfare. However, close to 3,100 troops have been killed by the insurrectionists.

As a nation of only 230 years, our God-given gift of freedom has been sought after by so many countries. Veterans who made the supreme sacrifice include over 100 chaplains. Those who are able thank God daily for being spared.

At 11 a.m. on November 11, Veteran's Day, we pause for a moment but at no time should we ever forget our nation's veterans.

Jim Haver
