Two Canarsie Soldiers Graduate From Their Basic Training Camps

Army Pvt. Charles A. DeSouza has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky. and Army Pvt. Pedro Malu has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine-week training period, the trainees received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

DeSouza is the son of Diana DeSouza Harrison of East 87th Street, Canarsie, and a 2002 graduate of Samuel J. Tilden High School.

Meanwhile, Pvt. Pedro Malu also studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations.

Malu is the son of Lourdes Crousset of the Paerdegats in Canarsie.
