Environmental Groups Clean Up Plumb Beach

As part of plan to clean up and restore Jamaica Bay, members of its Task Force and several groups (above right), including the American Littoral Society, the National Park Service and the city's Department of Environmental Protection, got together last Friday for a massive trash removal at Plumb Beach, several miles west of Canarsie. Littoral Society member Don Riepe (above left) told the Courier they removed more than half a ton of plastic, glass and wood debris from the shoreline and dunes of Plumb Beach, which he called, "A great natural habitat with a nice diversity."
