Summer's Over, But Kids' Letters Say They Enjoyed It
One of the letters came from a youth just entering his teens who worked all summer in a specialized apprentice job; some others were from students who spent time with the family in the Caribbean. One young lady let us know she spent most of her summer in her new backyard pool, playing with Barbie dolls. And then there were the mentions of frolicking in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden prior to a trip to the Prospect Park Zoo. All the letters were wonderful! Enjoy! This Summer I went to Miami to see my mom. I took the plane, JetBlue. When I was on the plane, there was a man sitting next to me. His mouth smelled terrible, "Yuck!" His breath was like milk that had long expired. He was a college boy. There was a younger girl sitting next to me. She had an ipod. It was pink. I like it.
When the plane landed, I got really excited. I took off my seat belt and then I got off the airplane. I saw my mom and my cousin Bruce waiting for me. I was so happy to see them. It had been four months since I had seen my mother. We then went to get my luggage. She said that she was so happy to see me. This almost made me cry. But not because I was sad. They were tears of joy. When we got my luggage, when went on our way. On our way home, we passed by a McDonald's. We go breakfast there. Then we finally got home. I saw my auntie Carine, my cousin Fritz Gerale, and my Grandma and Grandpa. I was delighted to see them because I hadn't seen them in such a long while. (When I came from Haiti to the United States, I went straight to New York. That means that I hadn't seen them in over a year!) My Grandma was baby sitting. She had a lot of things to do. So I was there to help her. I helped here by bathing a beautiful, two year old named Jasmine. She was almost perfect, but nobody is perfect. I had to help dress her, too. Then I had to put her to bed. But before bed, she needed something to eat. So I made her some macaronis. Jasmine wanted to play. If I played with her, my Grandma would yell at me. So I put her to bed. It was nighttime, and it was beautiful in Miami.

It was my first time going to Summer camp. I was afraid that no one would like me. On the first day, as soon as I walked in, I saw a girl that looked just like me. The same hairstyle and the same color skin. To get to know each other, the woman who was in charge, Pastor Oral, let us play the name game. When they came to me I said, "BriannaBanana." then we had to remember all the names. I couldn't remember all the names so I didn't go up. But this one girl went up and said all the names. She won a prize.
We did so good that she let us go to the pool the next day. So the next day we started to plan the trips. We do work on Mondays and Tuesdays. We go to the pool on Wednesdays. Then we go to the park on Thursday and go on a big trip on Friday. We had a lot of fun this Summer. I can't wait until next Summer to have a good time. P.S. 114 Class 504

When I Went To The Dominican Republic For My Summer Vacation It was last summer and my whole family and friends wanted to go on a vacation to relax and enjoy the summer. We decided to go to the Dominican Republic. I was very excited because I had never been there before. So when everybody went to the airport we showed our passports and we boarded the plane. I was tired when I got to my seat, so I fell asleep. When I woke up I heard the captain say we are at the 'Dominican Republic When I got of the plane I was so thrilled! It was so beautiful., We all went to the hotel. I knew that I was going to like it As I went to my room, I looked outside and I saw pools and a lot of things I would like to do. Since I had just arrived I had to unpack first and eat. I would have a lot of time to play tomorrow, but I couldn't wait to go in the pool and have a lot of fun. The next morning it was my day of fun. I was very excited, but first I started with some breakfast, and then it was time. First I put on my bathing suit, then I put some sun screen on and I was ready . When I went to the pool I met some new friends and then I was really enjoying the trip. My Summer Vacation Last Summer, I went to Prospect Park Zoo and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. They're both astounding places. They have two things that I like: trees and animals. Prospect park Zoo is on Flatbush Ave. The first thing you see is the California Sea Lions pool. It smells very nauseating. They have different times for feeding the seal lions: 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2 p.m. I liked every part of the zoo except they hand no chickens at the barnyard, when they said they did. And the snakes and the frogs creeped me out. I also went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. There were trees, beautiful flowers like roses and daisies. The Brooklyn Botanical gardens have a children's garden and a vegetable garden. They had rosemary in the vegetable garden. They also had an overlook view where you can sit and look below to see the nice, little park they have. The Children's Garden had a water garden. You could get a water plant. I got some floating water moss. The woman who worked there handed me the water plant and a paper that told me about the plant she gave me. She gave it to me in a plastic bag and handed me a brown paper bag to place it in. In conclusion, I can't wait to go back to see the celebrity path walk. Also I can't wait to see the Japanese pond. By the way, I had to throw out my water plant because it attracted way too many flies. My Mom made me do it. Verlandy Michel PS 114 Mr. Aguilar's 5th grade class
My Summer Vacation Was there ever a Summer in you life that you will never forget. Well, I had one of those summers. It was last Summer, 2006. Let's explore more. I traveled to a lot of places. One of the places I went to was Boston. Boston is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I got to see many things there. On thing that I saw was all the houses. They looked like chateaus. My favorite one was this one with trees all around it. The. leaves of the tress reached the grass. While I was in Boston, I got to go see the city with my Aunt. We mostly went out during the night time. The streets were always flashing with lights. The city was always filled with many people. Everywhere I went, there was never quiet. Another place I went, after I came back from Boston, was an amusement park called Dorney Park. Out of all the amusement parks I've been to, that was the largest. I had so much fun there. I went on many rides. On some of them I got so scared. But my favorite activity was the pool. It was an enormous pool. There was always waves. The waves made it even more fun because if you couldn't keep your balance in the water you could fall. Everyone tried to hold on, so they wouldn't fall. That day was a day I would never forget. That Summer was a Summer I will never forget. It was more fun having my family there to share the experiences. I am glad that I went. That was my best Summer ever!
