What's Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

Question: A company in Texas has been hired to teach children in one school district to fight back and use objects in reach if a gunman ever invades their classroom. Do you think this is a good idea or not? Why?

"I think that's a horrible idea. I think kids can get hurt in the process of trying to take a weapon from somebody else. It could only make the problem or the situation much worse than it is." Aleta Malloy, Canarsie
"You could look at this two different ways. It could be a danger to kids. Let's say the kid picks up a chair - and that instigates the gunman to start shooting. But then again, it might work - and the kids can defend themselves." Carlos Morales, Canarsie
"The kids can't fight back. I don't think that's a good idea. They should have more security - and take better security measures. Don't put a burden to defend themselves on small children." John Lee, Queens
"No, I don't think it's a good idea. I think it's a bad idea. A lot of times the gunman's intent is to get publicity to support some cause. So you'll give them that publicity, and that might provoke an intruder to hurt the children." Anderson King, Canarsie
