D.A. Will Charge P.S. 276 Psychologist For Forgery, Falsifying School Records
By Charles Rogers

A school psychologist assigned to Canarsie's Public School 276 has been arrested and the case turned over to Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes after she allegedly falsified records involving services for children with special needs.

A spokesperson for the City Depart-ment of Education (DOE) confirmed reports that Shari Lovenheim, 29, had allegedly forged signatures on individual education plans for at least 20 children. Sources said Lovenheim had been "overwhelmed" with work. She failed to evaluate certain programs at the school, located on East 93rd Street between avenues J and K, and told officials she didn't want to appear in-competent, the sources said. Although it could not be confirmed, an article in the Daily News said a special education teacher noticed her signature had been forged on a document regarding an 11-year-old student and she brought the matter to the attention of the DOE's special commissioner of investigation, Richard Conlin.

Department of Education General Counsel Michael Best gave the follow-ing statement to the media:

"We expect our employees to follow the law, especially when it comes to services for our children.

"This is unacceptable behavior and we hope the district attorney will prosecute the case to the fullest extent."

The spokesman for the district attorney said, although Lovenheim had not been arraigned at press time, she was being charged with one count of robbery, three counts of forgery and three counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.
