Body Of Young Riis Park Swimmer Found; Mill Basin Jet Ski Youth Is Still Missing

The body of a South Shore High School student who apparently drowned while swimming was found last Thursday and the body of another youth involved in a jet ski accident in Mill Basin a week earlier has not yet been found, police said.

Trevon Ridding, who had been swimming with family and friends at Riis Park on Monday, July 3, disappeared from view when he wandered away from his friends, apparently being dragged underwater by the fierce riptide off the Queens beach. Rescue workers combed the beach for three days without finding him. His body was discovered on the shore by a passerby on July 6.

Meanwhile, the body of jet skier Paul Zaccarias, 17, who apparently drowned in Mill Basin when another jet ski crashed into his on June 30, has not yet been found.

NYPD spokesperson Detective Theresa Farello said police have not given up on the search for the youth's body and are keeping the investigation into his death open.

While jet skiing on that Friday afternoon, Zaccarias, said to be without a life jacket, was swerving playfully when he turned abruptly and was struck by the other craft. The crash threw him into the air, according to witnesses, and he then disappeared in the water.
