MAN DIES IN BELT PKWY. RAMP CRASH
Police from the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad (AIS) confirmed this week that a man was killed Sunday when the car in which he was riding crashed into a tree as he was exiting the westbound lane of the Belt Parkway at about 4 a.m.
Although AIS officers could not reveal whether the victim was a passenger or the driver of the late-model Ford Taurus, it was indicated by witnesses that there were three males in the car. All were injured and were taken to Brookdale Hospital by Emergency Medical Service ambulance and, sources said, the deceased man passed away on the way to Brookdale.
One man who said he did not witness the actual crash but arrived on the scene moments later, said it appeared the car might have been traveling fast when it struck the tree after going out of control because there were no apparent skid marks, but this was not corroborated by police. The informant did not reveal his name.
