Police Nab Suspect In Armed Carjacking

By Charles Rogers

Police have picked up a suspect in the gunpoint carjacking last week in Canarsie of a livery cab driver.

Ishmael McIntosh, 19, who lives in the Kensington section of Brook-lyn, was charged with a number of offenses, including carjacking, when he was spotted in the East New York area and picked up by 75th Precinct police on Wednesday, January 18 after an all-points bulletin was issued in the livery auto theft.

Officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad said the carjacking took place at about 7:30 p.m. the previous evening when McIntosh hailed a livery car at East 51st Street and Rutland Road in East Flatbush and told the driver to take him to Can-arsie.

As soon as the driver arrived at Avenue N and East 96th Street, detectives said, McIntosh allegedly put a handgun to the head of the 45-year-old male driver and told him to give him all his money. He then pushed the driver out of the car and took the car, fleeing east on Avenue N.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Duque said McIntosh was charged with gland larceny, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He also said the suspect has a previous record, including alleged car thefts.
