A Cause For Walking
The fifth annual AIDS Walk Caribbean 2005 kicked off at 10 a.m. from the junction at Flatbush and Nostrand avenues, and ended 2.7 miles later at Wingate Park last Saturday. The theme this year was “Refocusing on a Vision for a Better Health Future.” “AIDS Walk Caribbean,” founded by Dawn C. Stewart, is the largest AIDS walk in Brooklyn and provides service for Caribbean-Americans, families in the Caribbean and others. The goal of AIDS Walk Caribbean is to bring awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic to the Caribbean-American community and the Caribbean Diaspora. Eighty percent of the funds raised from the walk, according to Caribbean People International Collective, Inc., are used for CPIC Support Care Centers, its hospice fund, community outreach, educational efforts and other causes.
