Annual Canarsie Bridges Community Festival’s A Hit

Enjoying free food, rides and music, people of all ages attended the annual Canarsie Bridges Community Festival and Health Fair last Sunday on St. Jude’s Place.

The festival’s highlight was a ceremony honoring the winners of the Canarsie Bridges Essay Contest entitled, “We Are All Canarsie.”

Hundreds of students from local schools participated in the contest, which was sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie. The winners were: First Place: Esther Lambert from P.S. 115 and Anisah Palmer of P.S/I.S. 66; Second Place: Deanna Bassett and Danielle Dawkins from of P.S./I.S 66; Third Place: Joennette Cobb from P.S./I.S. 66 and Ivan Witty from Our Lady Of Miracles School.

Special guests at the celebration included Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and City Councilman Lew Fidler.

Various local groups and clubs were also represented at the gala community festival.
