Holy Family Church

Our Confirmation celebrated by Bishop Joseph Sullivan will be on Saturday, May 28th at the 5:00 PM Mass. Sponsors and candidates must arrive at 4:15 PM in the school auditorium. Practices: For sponsors & candidates: Thurs. May 19th, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM. For candidates only: Tuesday, May 24th, 7:30 PM- 9:00 PM. Both practices must be attended.

Next Sunday, May 22nd will be the last class for this year of Religious Education. Please re-register for next year classes if you have not yet done so.

Our 125th Anniversary celebration will be held at Le Cordon Bleu Caterers on Saturday, October 15, 2005. More information to follow.

We welcome a new Director of Religious Education and Spiritual Development to Holy Family Parish beginning July 1, 2005 in the person of Mr. Brendon Egonu. Mr. Egonu was born in Nigeria and has worked as DRE in the ArchDiocese of Boston for the last 5 years. We say goodbye to Ms. Matthew and Mrs. Barna with a reception following the 11:15 Mass.

For the sacred heart of Jesus, on Wednesday and Thursday, (June 1 & 2) we will begin the TRIDUUM of devotions, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction (7:30 to 8:30 PM)...requirement for enrollment in the Sacred Heart Apostolates. On Friday, June 3rd, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we will celebrate a Formal Enrollment Ceremony for the Parish, and also families, homes and individuals of the Parish in Church at 7:30 PM followed by a social in the Cafeteria.

If your family is in need of food, please stop by the rear basement doors of Our Lady Miracles Rectory on the days listed. Also, anyone who cares to donate any food, the pantry is always in need of dry milk, cold cereal, peanut butter & jelly, mayonnaise, cooking oil, tuna fish, corned beef hash, paper goods and whatever else. Our pantry is always in need of food. At this time we are also in need of canned items such as sweet potatoes, white potatoes, applesauce and sliced peaches. The Canarsie Cluster Food Pantry appreciates all the help you give us.

The R.C.I.A. is a process for adults who are unbaptized and want to learn more about the Roman Catholic faith with the possibility of becoming a member. It is also for baptized Christians from other denominations who are considering joining the Catholic Church. Those baptized Catholics who need to receive their First Eucharist and Confirmation are also part of R.C.I.A. If you know anyone who is interested, please ask them to call Sister Joan at the Rectory.

Classes are also held for high school aged students who have not received their sacraments yet. Anyone interested is asked to contact Sister Joan.

A special “Thank You” to everyone who helped to make the “Raffle Riot Night” on May 6th such a huge success! Thank you to all those who helped set up and decorate the Parish Hall and to all those who helped with the work that night. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes and to everyone who came and enjoyed the evening with us. Thank you to those who solicited gifts for us. Thank you to the school students who came to help. Thank you to those who helped make the decorations and to those who helped to make the baskets and sort the gifts. Thank you to the Holy Name Society for their help with refreshments.

The Rosary Society has a “Baby Wishing Well” set up in the Gathering Room in the Church. Rosarians and all parishioners are asked to help by placing new baby gifts into the basket. All the gifts donated will be sent to the New York Life Center to distribute to families in need. The wishing well will remain in the Church through Sunday, May 29th.

The annual Sacred Heart Novena at the Visitation Monastery Sacred Heart Chapel will begin on May 26th and conclude on June 3rd with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Monastery is located at 8902 Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge.

Booster Club tickets are available at the doors of the Church after all the Masses. The next drawing will take place on Wednesday, June 8th.

The 12:30 PM Mass is our Bi-Lingual Mass. The first reading, the psalm and some of the hymns will be in the language of the day. May 22nd and 29th are in English.

October 2004 - 2005 has been declared “Year of the Eucharist” to help us fully and actively participate and appreciate the Mass more. If you are not receiving Holy Communion, please call Msgr. John, Fr. Mike or Sr. Mary to see what can be done so you can receive.

St. Jude Youth Center for those in grades 5-8 will be Friday, May 20th from 2:45 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Activities include Basketball, Board Games, Ping-Pong, Pool, etc.

Services for Friday evening for Parshas B’har begins at 7:00 PM. Candle lighting for our congregants is 7:10 PM. Shabbos morning services begin at 9:00. This week’s kiddush is being hosted by several members of the Synagogue and the congregation is cordially invited to participate.

Shabbos afternoon youth groups for boys meet at 7:15. Mincha is at 7:50 followed by seudah shelishis. Shabbos ends with maariv and havdala at 9:00 PM.
