One On One, a local physical therapy center, is trying to change the face of rehabilitation in Brooklyn and Staten Island. In addition to dealing with physical and occupational therapy, they also work in sports rehabilitation.

Conveniently located at 2183A Ralph Avenue, in the Georgetowne Shopping Center since 2000, One On One began as a smaller office in Starrett City before moving to this improved site. All centers are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment like Cybex weight training facilities, top cardio equipment and private treatment areas for patients to be evaluated. The staff is comprised of multi-specialty physical and occupational therapists all licensed in the state of New York. Patients may range in age from eight to eighty.

Privately owned and operated, One On One has physical therapy aids to treat all different orthopedic conditions including surgical and non-surgical injuries to shoulders, arms, wrists, knees, ankles and the spine. It also deals with occupational therapy, especially for people hurt on the job and helping word processing typists recover from such injuries as carpal tunnel syndrome.

One On One’s sports rehabilitation is what separates it from other therapy centers. Its certified athletic trainers work to heal injured athletes in the office as well as on the playing field. One on One deals directly with local high schools — South Shore, Tilden and Canarsie — and colleges —Medgar Evers and NYC Tech, among others. As a courtesy, it offers coverage at high school football games, in case of injury, at no charge to the school. It also has relations with the Brooklyn Kings, a semi-professional basketball team.

Representatives from One On One visit hospitals in the area to speak with orthopedists and inform them of their services.

One On One has three other Brooklyn offices in Starrett City, Bay Ridge and Park Slope. It also has an office on Richmond Avenue, near the Staten Island mall.

Sal Aprea, athletic trainer and marketing director, explains that this kind of business is not as popular in the five boroughs as it is on Long Island and the West Coast.

One On One provides 45-minute to one hour sessions with professional and courteous trainers. “We’re trying to bring quality care back to physical therapy,” Sal said.

Instead of burning out patients, they try to make the experience a pleasant one by using a variety of treatments so clients are anxious to continue therapy.

The staff at One On One is a close knit family in and out of work. Customers are greeted with a smile and attended to by a very friendly and welcoming environment. Their main concern is the convenience of their clientele. This is why there is accessible parking at many locations that are open 6 days a week to accommodate everyone. They also accept most insurance and can provide rates and availability upon request.

One On One operates Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8-11 a.m. The Georgetowne number is 1-718-451-1400 or check out their Web site at www.oneononephysicaltherapy.com.
