What’s Your Opinion?
Responses compiled and photographed by Bill O’Neill

“No. I don’t think that’s fair. Yeah, alright you can say it’s making it easier for parents who send their kids to Catholic school. But what about the parents of public school kids? Everybody should get a break, because it also costs a lot to send kids to public school.” Anastasis Robinson, Bedford-Stuyvesant
Question: Archbishop Edward Egan recently suggested families who send their children to parochial schools are entitled a tax credit to combat the rising cost of private education and which would help prevent the closing of more Catholic schools. Do you think this is a good idea? And, is it fair to families who send their children to public schools?

“I think it’s not fair to give Catholic schools a tax credit because all schools should be treated equally. Catholic schools are just like any other school.” Jennifer Suriel, Bushwick

“I think they should get a tax break. More schools would be open for the kids. It’s better for the kids. Get a good Catholic school education, get a job. So it’s a good idea.” Sal Siciliano, Canarsie
“When I went to Catholic school, it was free. And no, they shouldn’t get a tax credit. They should offer it free again. The Catholic Church is the wealthiest in the world. They have the money. It’s not fair to parents who send their kids to public school.” Karen Pellerano, Canarsie
