ERA Broker Council Honored With Muscular Dystrophy Association Award

The New York Metro Broker Coun-cil of ERA Franchise Systems includes members of Canarsie’s Elect Realty and Peskin Realty and received the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Memorial Award at a special Muscular Dystrophy As-sociation luncheon on Feb. 16 during the ERA International Business Con-ference in Orlando, Florida.

Teenage singing sensation and MDA National Youth Chairman Billy Gilman helped present the award at the MDA luncheon and performed live at the real estates company’s conference for the second year.

Named for the late teen poet who served as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador until his death in June, the Stepanek Memorial Award was presented to the ERA broker council that raised the most donations for MDA last year. The New York Metro Broker Council outdid other ERA councils by raising nearly $72,000 for MDA’s efforts to defeat neuromuscular diseases.

The council was recognized at the conference’s general session and listed in the “Best of the Best” Awards program. ERA Franchise Systems, representing the real estate industry as a sole corporate sponsor of MDA, has raised more than $30 million for the Association since 1977. The ERA network of real estate professionals has continued its outstanding show of support by raising nearly $775,000 in 2004 for MDA.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and a far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association’s programs are funded al-most entirely by individual contributor.
