Brooklyn Caribbean Youth Fest 2005; Heritage Is Timeless An Initiative To Showcase & Preserve Caribbean Culture
Maxine Hamilton Alexander HAMPTONIANS NEW YORK is set to launch the Brooklyn Caribbean Youth fest 2005; Heritage is Timeless – An Initiative to Showcase & Preserve Caribbean Culture Brooklyn Borough Hall - Routonda 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201 Thursday, March 3, 2005 11 am Sharp! Borough Hall, Brooklyn will be a buzz with excitement as Papa & Mama Fest tells everyone about the uniqueness of Caribbean culture. The story of the Youth Fest will unfold when Maxine Hamilton-Alexander takes the podium with E. Wayne McDonald of Caribbean Cultural Theatre and the rest of the Brooklyn Caribbean Youth Fest 2005 Team. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Jamaica’s Consul General Dr. Basil Bryan along with other leaders and supporters from the community will be on hand. This Brooklyn Caribbean Youth Fest 2005; Heritage is Timeless will showcase an array of traditional dance, song, speech and drama pieces. HAMPTONIANS NEW YORK has three primary partners: Orville Minott (Prospect Park Alliance Youth Council); E. Wayne McDonald (Caribbean Cultural Theatre) and Caribbean Research Center (Youth Department). Additionally local organizations such as Michael Manswell (Something Positive); Jerbean Gilkes (independent choreographer) and Aubry Padmore (Caribbean Voice) are active collaborators and members of the planning committee. HAMPTONIANS NEW YORK believes one of the most powerful ways to tap into people resources is to form partnerships and alliance. Together we can identify common challenges and seek solutions. Traditional folk forms will be the central format of the Brooklyn Caribbean Youth Fest 2005; Heritage is Timeless. Brooklyn youth from the various multi-ethnicity of the Caribbean will be on show. The audience can look forward to seeing the maypole, quadrille, gerreh, dinki-mini and bruckins dances. They will be getting their fill on the best of drumming, speech and folk music as it is presented by individuals and groups of young people.
