Through The Ropes
Batista joins Randy Orton as a former career mid-carder who was pushed to the rafters by H and Ric Flair. So while many are looking at this as the disbanding of Evolution, I hope this is simply a chance to bring some new people into the fold and have all of their dreams realized. Here are a few guys who could benefit from H’s and Flair’s tutelage. Steven Richards – Okay, feel free to laugh at me for even mentioning this guy. But do you remember the charisma he had when he was running the Blue World Order in Extreme Championship Wrestling? This is a guy with top-notch wrestling skills and a certain gift on the mic who has been pushed so far down that many would say there’s no hope. But who really thought that Batista would be anything more than a glorified Tyson Tomko? The Hurricane – Again, an unlikely choice. But the superhero thing has run its course. I could see him tearing off his crime-fighting garb and turning on Rosie at the request of Flair and H. Maybe he couldn’t ever be a World Title contender, but match him up with a partner (Richards?) and you’d have a great henchmen/tag-team combination (think Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson from the Four Horsemen). Ron Killings – World Wrestling Entertainment has been surprisingly respectful and has pretty much left the talent of rival National Wrestling Alliance/Total Nonstop Action alone. But everybody’s still scratching their heads as to why Killings was fired during his K-Qwik days with the WWE. If this is a decision that Vince McMahon wants to have back, what better time to right as wrong? Killings may be under a TNA contract, but McMahon could come up with a check that would settle any disagreements, and it would be money well spent. Maven – I’ve mentioned him be-fore. His heel turn by himself went nowhere. He’s the prime example of the magic of Triple H and Flair. If he rides with them for a year, he’s a star. Otherwise, he’s just like any other good guy gone bad. Chris Jericho – I normally hate seeing him as a bad guy, and he doesn’t exactly fit in this list because he is an established star. But let’s face it: He’s gotten lost in the shuffle recently, known more for his band, Fozzy, than what he does in the ring. Him coming to Evolution would be maybe a six-month affair, followed by H turning on him. It would start a great feud between Jericho and H, who work each other well. Chris Masters – I’d almost hate seeing this guy get the nod, but what in the world else are you going to do? He debut as “The Masterpiece” was awful. Lex Luger was a big deal 20 years ago because of a muscular physique, but this guy’s body is nothing special today. So why push him that way? Let Triple H teach him that it’s about being cunning, not cut. You can contact Josh Stewart at throughtheropes1@cs.com.
