Cops Nab Trio; Charge Them With Breaking Into Cars In Paerdegats With the arrest of three Paerdegat residents two weeks ago, 69th Precinct police have high hopes that they’ve ended a possible string of robberies involving articles being stolen from parked cars. According to a report filed last week, Sergeant Andrew Bauer and Police Officer Michael Kelliher of the precinct’s Anti Crime Unit were conducting a canvass of the area on Paerdegat Avenue North near Paerdegat 13th Street because residents there had complained that articles left in their cars were missing. As a result of the complaints, Captain Ralph Monteforte, commanding officer of the precinct, had issued a public request telling drivers not to leave items in their cars overnight. Monteforte also beefed up patrols in the area. While Bauer and Kelliher were patrolling in an unmarked car on January 27, they spotted three men sitting in a car that had previously been pointed out in a surveillance tape as “suspicious” because it was parked near where some of the thefts had taken place. Bauer and Kelliher questioned tthe trio and, while conducting the interrogation, discovered a number of allegedly stolen items in the vehicle, among them an airbag that had been reported stolen a week ago and a credit card. Although the names of the suspects were not released, all were subsequently arrested and taken to the Foster Avenue station house. They were charged with six counts of criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of burglar tools and criminal trespass. Charles Rogers
