CHS Students & Parents Learn About Financial Aid

Approximately 40 Canarsie High School seniors and their parents (below) braved frigid temperatures one evening last month to attend a financial aid workshop sponsored by the Rockaway Parkway secondary school’s College Office.

Each parent received a packet of information, including a new application for Federal Student Aid. A detailed discussion covered such topics as the federal Pell Grant, Supplemental Economic Opportunity Grant and the Tuition Assistance Program of New York State, all of which are monies which do not have to be reimbursed. Under the Federal Work Study program, college students are given a job and paid for their work. A lively question and answer session was the highlight of the informative event.

David Harris, the new principal of Canarsie High School, greeted those in attendance and made a few welcoming remarks. He was pleased to note that 85 percent of the school’s graduates go on to higher education.

Jubae MuJahid, (above) Assistant Principal for Guidance Services supervised the event.
