Lady Vikings Lose In Neighborhood Hoops Rivalry
The boys’ team defeated the Vikings in two regular season games, while the girls team dominated their rivals in head-to-head match ups. Back on December 9, the Lady Chiefs devastated the Lady Vikings, 93-32, at South Shore’s gymnasium. In their meeting last Thursday, the Lady Vikings once again went down without much of a fight, 72-33, on Canarsie’s home floor. The game was virtually over by the end of the first quarter as Canarsie scored 24 unanswered points to take control of the game. Wykeemi Gray led the charge for the Lady Chiefs as the sophomore center scored 19 points, brought down 26 rebounds and had five assists. South Shore avoided the cellar spot and broke an eight-game losing streak by defeating the last place Sheepshead Bay Lady Sharks, 48-36, a day earlier. South Shore jumped to an early 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. It was the Lady Vikings first lead going into the second quarter of a game since their game against the James Madison’s Lady Knights on December 14. In that game South Shore had a 7-5 lead going into the second quarter, but Madison erupted for a 25-6 run before halftime, which marked the beginning of the Lady Vikings losing streak and descent towards the PSAL Brooklyn A-1 Division basement. In the contest against the Lady Sharks, South Shore held on to the lead and never relinquished it as they won their first game of the season at home. The Lady Vikings have two games remaining. Their next game is at home against the Franklin D. Roosevelt Lady Cougars. The final game will be against the first-place Abraham Lincoln Lady Railsplitters, who beat them by 47 points in their last meeting.
