Fitness Center’s Fundraiser To Help Children Left Homeless By Tsunami Participating Curves fitness centers throughout New York City and Long Island are conducting a special fundraiser on January 30 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm to benefit orphans left behind by the tragic tsunami that hit Southeast Asia at the beginning of the month. “The world is reeling from the tragedy, so when some of the Long Island Curves got together to plan a fundraiser, we were excited to join in,” said Trish Roberts, owner of a newly opened Curves on Remsen Avenue in Brooklyn. “It started when a Curves member in Long Island lost a cousin to the tsunami. The member, Indira Amarasinghe, and her husband decided to donate 12 acres of inherited land in Galle District, Sri Lanka to the development of an orphanage for the many children who will be left homeless by this tragic disaster,” Roberts explained. Curves will accept $10 donations from members and non-members of any age in exchange for a trial of their unique 30-minute workout on special hydraulic resistance equipment. Their hope is that by banding together, the over 100 Curves in our area will raise $50,000 or more for the project, which is estimated at $3,000,000. 100% of contributions will go to The Sri Lanka Orphanage Fund. Contributions can also be sent directly to the fund at 31 W. Main Street, Suite 212, Patchogue, NY 11772 or contact Dula Amarasinghe at 631-447-6333. Call your local Curves to find out if they are participating in this special fundraiser by calling 1 - 877-CURVES-4-U or visiting curvesinternational.com. Ms. Roberts of Curves in Brooklyn can be reached at 718-495-9500.
