City Health Dept. Says Flu Shots Now Available To All
Dr. Frieden said, “Given the earlier shortage of flu vaccine, many people stepped aside to allow those at highest risk to get a flu shot. With ample supplies now available, there is time for anyone who wants a flu shot to be protected this season. There are still several weeks left in the flu season and it is not too late to get a shot. It can lessen time and productivity lost at work or school. For those over the age of 65, flu shots reduce their risk of illness, hospitalization, and cuts the risk of death from all causes in half.” It is still critical that people at highest risk for complications of the flu - those with underlying medical conditions, those over the age of 50 and especially those over 65 - to get a flu shot. New Yorkers can get the flu vaccine from their family doctor or primary care provider. There are also several sites throughout all five boroughs offering vaccinations. Health Department clinics and Health and Hospitals Corporation facilities throughout the City offer the vaccination. For information about where to get a flu shot, call 311, or visit nyc.gov/hea1th/flu.
