A: While it’s true that Shelley’s been despondent over her marriage breaking up, her spokesman has said that she accidentally took an overdose of a painkiller prescribed for a separate ailment, which landed her in the hospital. She did not, he has said, deliberately try to kill herself. Shelley also has expressed her gratitude for fans’ well wishes received during this trying time. * * * Q: I find the new NBC show, “Com-mitted”, horribly painful to watch. I wanted to give it a shot, particularly since Tom Poston is in it with Valerie Harper. I’m also a fan of Jennifer Finnigan from “Bold and the Beautiful”. However, it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t think it’s the acting. It’s the writing. It’s just plain awful! What gives? Hayley T. A: Critics have also slammed the show, and I did see the first episode, which was, as you say, awful, and in my opinion as well. I don’t hold high hopes for this one. Then again, sometimes it takes a while for a new show to find its voice. * * * Q: “General Hospital” keeps alluding to the character of Laura, but I haven’t seen her in quite a while. What gives? Is Genie Francis on another long hiatus? Sue F. A: In the storyline, Luke (Tony Geary) had his wife committed to Shadybrook because of mental illness. Genie, though, has left the show completely and has no plans to return. * * * Q: I’ve been wondering about the guy who played Gordo on “Lizzie McGuire”. What’s he been doing since Hilary Duff pulled the plug on the Disney show? Chris K. A: Adam Lamberg can be seen in “When Do We Eat?”, an independent film to be released in April. The comedy is described as “the world’s fastest Seder” gone screwy. Lamberg has been acting since the tender age of 7, and is currently stepping away from the cameras to pursue his education at the University of California at Berkeley.
