Laser Surgery Lasers are now playing a much more significant role in dental surgery. Here are some advantages to their use: There is very little or no bleeding, which enables the surgeon to have a dry operating site and excellent visibility. The result is a shorter and less traumatic procedure. Both blood vessels and lymphatics are sealed, as they are cut resulting in much reduced post operative swelling. The surgeon experiences amazing control and precision so that optimal results are achieved. Pain is reduced. This is probably due to the sealing of nerve fibers as the laser vaporizes, coagulates, or cuts. Mechanical trauma is lessened and even normal scarring is greatly reduced. Sutures are very rarely needed because of better tissue position, less bleeding and reduced trauma. Lasers also reduce bacterial counts and create a more sterile operating field. Healing, therefore, is quicker and more pain free. Most importantly, patients like it. It, however, cannot be used for all general procedures. Views On Dental Health
