COPS ARREST GI SLAY SUSPECT
Joseph Carrington, 23, of Martense Street, Brooklyn, walked into the pre-cinct with his lawyer and gave himself up after fleeing from in front of the Ambiance Caribbean Restaurant and Bar at 9413 Avenue L after the shooting, which occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The soldier was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he passed away shortly after arriving. His brother was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was treated for six gunshot wounds then listed in stable condition, police said.
Balkissoon and his brother were celebrating at the club when an argument with two women ensued, according to Lieutenant Dennis McCreight, who heads the 69th Precinct Detective Squad. One of the women called Carrington, who arrived on the scene and allegedly pulled out a gun and started firing, first at Terrence, after chasing him into the entrance to Ambiance, then at Lawrence, just outside the door. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Carrington has a record and had previously been charged with weapons possession. After surrendering at the Canarsie station house, Carrington was charged with second degree murder, attempted murder, first degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, a .40 caliber automatic. After the slaying a manhunt was conducted throughout East Flatbush, Canarsie and surrounding neighborhoods, as detectives canvassed the areas. Crime Stoppers had issued a reward of $2,000 for information leading to a capture and arrest. Sergeant Balkissoon, who was as-signed to the 1st Infantry Division, will be buried with full military honors, according to sources.
