FAMILIES TERRORIZED IN HOME INVASIONS
Police from the 69th Precinct are investigating two armed robberies within two days, where the thieves pushed into apartments on Glenwood Road and in the Paerdegat section. Although they both took place in the middle of the day, there ws no evidence to connect the two incidents, police said. The first took place at about 12:15 p.m. on Friday, December 9 on Glen-wood Road near East 88th Street when two men pushed their way into a first floor apartment. One of the men displayed a black handgun and told three occupants, the 37-year-old home owner, a 37-year-old resident of East 79th Street who was visiting and a 13-year-old visitor, to sit on the floor and be quiet while his accomplice tied their hands behind them. The thieves took an undetermined amount of money from the male victim’s wallet and the duo proceeded to ransack the house, taking a small plasma TV set, plus some video equipment before they fled out the front door. None of the victims was injured, police said. The second home invasion was on Paerdegat 14 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 10 when two men knocked on the door of an apartment occupied by a 68-year-old woman and her 32-year-old daughter. When the daughter asked, “Who is it?” one of the men answered in a Jamaican accent, “I have the money I owe you.” The woman opened the door and the two intruders, wielding handguns, burst into the room. “Give us the money!” one demanded. When told there wasn’t any money around, the thieves forced the two women into a downstairs bedroom, binding their hands and mouths with tape. The intruders then took some jewelry from a nightstand and fled. There were no injuries. Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
