Wounded Man Found On Avenue J After Being Shot On E. 108th Street

By Charles Rogers

A resident of an apartment complex on East 108th Street near Avenue J was shot in broad daylight last Monday in the lobby of his building, police said. The 34-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was shot in the left arm and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated and pronounced in stable condition. His wounds were not life threatening, police said.

The victim told patrol officers from the 69th Precinct that, shortly after 5 p.m., he had been accosted by an unknown man who shot him. He did not give officers or detectives a reason for the shooting, except to say he did not know his assailant. He described the shooter as black, about 25 years old, bald, and wearing blue jeans and a white tee shirt.

The victim said that when the man started shooting, he fled to Avenue J near East 107th Street, where he fell to the ground. Neighbors and witnesses called police. The shooter also fled in an unknown direction.

According to officials of the local detective squad, there were no specific witnesses to the shooting, but several people who saw the victim run towards East 107th Street were de-tained for questioning.

Police said they searched the area for ballistic evidence and checked on the record of the victim, discovering that he had been arrested multiple times in the past, mostly for narcotics offenses. The case remains under active investigation, police said.

Anyone with further information is asked to call the local detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
