TEEN CHARGED IN SHOOTING

By Charles Rogers

A 15-year-old boy was arrested early last Friday after allegedly shooting a man and woman when he and some friends became involved in a dispute with them on East 86th Street, police said.

The victims, a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, whose names were not released, told detectives from the 69th Precinct that they were walking on East 86th Street near Glen-wood Road at about 1:30 a.m. on July 22 after visiting with a friend when they became involved in an argument with several people apparently hanging out on the corner.

During the course of the argument, the teenager, whose name was also withheld because of his age, pulled out a .45 caliber semi-automatic hand-gun and fired about four or five shots, which struck the woman in her left calf and the man in the right knee and left hip, the detectives said. The youth and his friends fled, with the alleged gun-wielder running into a nearby house.

Neighbors called police and Officers Tara King and Kate Cronin, who were patrolling nearby, responded and arrest-ed the youth without further incident, although the weapon was not found. He was charged with two counts of assault and a search warrant was sought to investigate the house and other areas for the weapon.

The victims were taken to Brook-dale Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics and declared in stable condition by emergency room personnel.

Police searched the youth’s house and subsequently arrested his 35-year-old mother after discovering the alleged .45 used in the shooting and a 9 mm Luger handgun in the apartment. Detective Lt. Dennis McCreight said the woman was charged with criminal pos-session of a weapon.

Anyone who might have seen the incident or who might have further information is asked to call the local detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers and 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
