Man Shot During Holiday Gathering
A 50-year old Breukelen Houses resident called police last Monday at about 1:50 p.m. to say he had just been shot in the right leg by a man who had been visiting his apartment while he was having a small Memorial Day holiday get-together among friends.
The victim, whose name was not released, was subsequently taken to Brookdale Hospital where emergency room doctors said his wound was not life threatening.
The victim told detectives that three acquaintances were visiting him in his apartment at 106-12 Farragut Road, when one of the visitors, a man only known as “Dread,” who arrived there with a girl named “Peanuts,” was playing with a small pistol when it discharged and he was struck in the right calf.
He said Dread apologized and started to try to help, but then the alleged shooter, another visitor and Peanuts abruptly fled in an unknown direction.
The victim then called 911 and told police he would meet them in front of his building, detectives said. Police conducted a search throughout the area, including trash compactors and elevator pits for the weapon or shells with negative results. Charles Rogers
