I.S. 211 Students Go Trippin’
As part of I.S. 211’s dropout prevention program, 35 seventh and eighth graders, escorted by Principal Buffie Simmons-Peart, four teachers and an assistant principal, recently traveled to Baltimore and Washington, DC. The trip had several goals, including exposure to life outside of New York City, reinforcement of the importance of a college education and an educational visit to historical landmarks in the nation’s capitol. Students were selected for the trip based on academics, citizenship and a written essay explaining how this tour would benefit them. Simmons-Peart said, “This experience will help our students, especially at such an impressionable age.”(Above) Everyone gathered for a group photo.
