A new - and decidedly better - photo of a man who is wanted as a suspect in a Canarsie murder last year was shown on the popular television show "America's Most Wanted" last weekend. Police hope the TV show and picture will help lead to the arrest of Rhameen Edwards, 24, who allegedly shot a teenage bystander on July 4, 2004 on Avenue L after a fight with another man.

Daniel Springer, 17, was shot after he witnessed Edwards and another man in a fight near Rockaway Parkway at about 3:30 p.m. One of the men - allegedly Edwards - ran away from the fight and returned moments later with a gun, saying he had to shoot "somebody," and began firing wildly, eventually hitting Springer three times. The victim later died at Brookdale Hospital.

"Most Wanted" told the story last Saturday, indicating that Edwards' home is in California. The Fox network program is shown nationwide.

Anyone with information on Edwards' whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
