Our Lady Of Miracles

During Lent our church will be open all day, each Monday of Lent, for visits to the Blessed Sacrament until the Novena to Our Lady of Miracles & Benediction at 8:00 PM. Each day following the 8:30 AM mass there will be praying the Rosary. Tuesday mornings after mass: The Novena to Our Lady of Miracles. Fridays of Lent at 7:30 PM: Stations of the Cross (Tri-lingual, in English, Italian & French). Saturday mornings after mass: The Novena to Our Lady of Miraculous Medal. Reconciliation opportunities for the Sacrament of Penance each Wednesday at 9:00 AM & each Saturday from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

Our Food Pantry, sponsored by the Canarsie Cluster, (Our Lady of Miracles, St. Jude & Holy Family) is available for those in need. It is open on Fridays & Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM both days.

If your family is in need of food, please stop by the rear basement doors of Our Lady Miracles rectory on the days listed. Also, anyone who cares to donate any food, the pantry is always in need of dry milk, cold cereal, peanut butter & jelly, mayonnaise, cooking oil, tuna fish, corned beef hash, paper goods and whatever else. Our pantry is always in need of food. At this time we are also in white potatoes, applesauce and sliced peaches. The Canarsie Cluster Food Pantry appreciates all the help you give us.

The Scripture Faith Sharing Groups began to meet for their Lenten Session. The theme for this session is “The Eucharist” and the groups will be discussing the history of the Eucharist, different aspects of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as well as Eucharistic Devotions. The Holy Name Society will have their monthly meeting on Monday, March 14th at 7:30 pm in the Parish Center. Please note the new starting time is 7:30 pm.

All men in the parish are invited to join the Mary Queen of Heaven Holy Name Society by coming to the meeting on March 14th.

Abstinence: The Church requires all the faithful who have reached their 14th year to abstain totally from meat on all Fridays of Lent.

Easter Duty: After they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season, unless for good reason it is fulfilled at another time during the year. The Easter Season begins at the Vigil on Holy Saturday and concludes with the celebration of Pentecost.

Stations of the Cross: Every Friday morning after the 8:30 am Mass. Scripture Faith sharing - Tuesdays at 1pm and 7:30 pm in the Parish Center Chapel, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in parishioners homes. Monday, March 21st at 7:30pm at St. Bernard’s Church. Good Friday: Outdoor Stations of the Cross at 4:30 pm, beginning and ending in the church.

We will be having a day of retreat on Saturday, March 12th. The day will begin with 9 am Mass in the church. We will then proceed to the Parish Hall and breakfast will be served.

Following breakfast there will be prayer and discussions that will help us all to enhance our Lenten journey as we prepare for our celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lunch will be provided. The retreat will conclude at 3 PM. At the closing of the retreat we will recommission all of the ministers who currently serve in the parish. Everyone in the parish is invited to attend. It will be an uplifting and exhilarating experience and we encourage you to try to be there.

Candle lighting for Friday evening Pikudei, Shabbos Rosh Chodesh and parshas Shekalim is 5:40 PM. Services begin with Mincha at 5:50 PM. Shabbos morning services begin at 9:00. Portions from 3 Torahs will be read as part of the morning service. Parsha Shekalim is the first of 4 special Torah readings prior to Purim and Passover.

This week’s Kiddush is hosted by the Chevra Mishnayos in honor of Rosh Chodesh and the congregation is cordially invited to participate.

Shabbos afternoon youth groups for boys meet at 5:10. All youngsters are invited. Mincha services will be at 5:40 followed by seudah shlishis sponsored by synagogue. Shabbos ends with Maariv and Havdala at 6:48 PM.

Community Yeshiva

The Canarsie Community Yeshiva ,located at 1387 East 96th Street, extends a gracious welcome to the entire Jewish community.

We are announcing that registration is ongoing for our community Yeshiva. Classes are held Sunday through Wednesday evenings at the Yeshiva.

Classes are open to men and women of all ages. Young and old alike are afforded an opportunity to enroll in a Yeshiva program.

We encourage the Jewish community to devote at least one evening a week and join us at the Yeshiva and broaden their knowledge and background of Torah and tradition.

An open invitation is extended to the Canarsie community Daily Minyan. Our Prayer Group is located at Congregation AAA Sfard 1385 East 94th Street. Services start at 6 AM, with study period from 6:35-7:05 AM.
