Holy Family School Registration: Registration for the September 2005-2006 school year will take place for Grades Pre-Kindergarten to 7th.
Monday, February 14 to Friday, February 18th, 9:30 AM to 11:30AM and 1PM to 3PM. at the school office (E.98th Street Main Entrance). Full Day Pre-Kindergarten (NYS LAW: 4 years old by DEC. 31, 2000). Kindergarten: (NYS Law: 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2000). First Grade (NYS Law: 6 years old by Dec. 31, 1999). Optional After School Program available.
In accordance with Diocesan Policy and NYS Law, you MUST PRESENT the following documents at the time of registration for your application to be processed:
*Child’s Birth Certificate and Social Security Card. *Immunization records. *Child’s Baptismal Certificate (for Catholic or Baptized non-Catholics). *Most recent report card & standardized scores (grades 1 to 7). *$100 non-refundable application fee per family. *Holy Family parishioners....weekly envelope account number. The child must accompany the parent for testing.
Please plan ahead so that you can participate in our parish mission which will be conducted by the Congregation of the Franciscans of Renewal founded by Fr. Benedict Groeschel.
The dates of the Mission will be Monday thru Thursday, March 7th to 10th at 7:30PM. The Franciscans will preach at the Masses on March 5th & 6th. There will be opportunity for confessions on Wednesday evening. Fr. Sylvester Mann will be one of the priests with us that week.
All active parishioners of Holy Family are required to register at the rectory to receive monthly envelopes for your tithing. Only in this way can the parish issue documents attesting to parish membership and Catholic practice as needed for a sponsor for Confirmation of Baptism. You may also request at the end of the year a report of your tithes for tax purposes. Please call or come to the rectory during office hours to register. If you have registered and did not receive the envelopes, please call the rectory.

One of the ways our parish is honoring the Holy Father’s call to celebrate a Year of the Eucharist is by forming small, faith sharing groups that will use a discussion guide for the six weeks of Lent. The discussion guide will help us look at the history of the Eucharist, different aspects of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as well as Eucharistic Devotions.
Why not consider joining one of these groups? The groups will begin this week and will meet at varying times, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. You can sign up after all the Masses this weekend or you can call the Rectory Office during the week (718-763-2330).
On Tuesday, February 15th at 7:30 pm in the church, Al Barbarino will be here to present a Lenten Evening of Song and Prayer. The theme for this evening is “Living Our Catholic Faith in These Challenging Times - How Do We Do It?”
Abstinence: The Church requires all the faithful who have reached their 14th year to abstain totally from meat on all FRIDAYS of Lent.
Fasting: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are also bound to observe the fasting regulation on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals.
Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions in the courses of the day.

The Holy Name Society Mass is Sunday, February 13th at 12:00 Noon. All members are asked to attend. The Holy Name Meeting will be held on Monday, February 14th at 8:30pm in the Parish Hall. Wives and Sweethearts are invited to this Valentine’s Day Meeting.

Bi-Lingual Masses: The 12:30 PM Mass is our Bi-lingual Mass. The first reading, the psalm and some of the hymns will be in the language of the day. February 13th, Spanish/English; February 20th, Tagalog/English, February 27th English.
Stations of the Cross: There will be Stations Of the Cross on Friday, February 11th at 7:30 P.M. in the church.
R.I.C.A. News: Those in our R.C.I.A. will be taking their next step in their faith journey with the Rite of Election. They will be going to Christ the King H.S. on Sunday, February 13th for a prayer service with Bishop DiMarzio after the 10:30 A.M. Mass here. Please pray for them.
Canarsie Youth Rally: There will be the First Youth Rally for young people in Canarsie on Sunday, February 20th at 3:00 P.M. at Holy Family School on Flatlands Ave. and East 98th Street. The day will bring together young people from 7th grade through High School from Holy Family, Our Lady of Miracles and St. Jude.
Evening of Prayer: Tuesday, February 22nd at 7:30 P.M. Sister Ave Clark, O.P. from Heart to Heart Ministry will present an evening of prayer with the theme: God’s Good Gifts are all around us.
Bereavement: A reminder! Our parish has a First Monday of every month at 7:30 P.M. Anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one is welcome to join this group. Healing can occur for individuals as they share their grief with others who are suffering in a similar way. The grieving process is unique for each person. The group offers support for the process.
Young Adults: The Young Adults of Canarsie (20’s early 30’s) will be having “God and Good Food”. This is a gathering for 3 weeks to discuss our Catholic faith over a meal. It will be on Friday, February 18th, Friday, February 25th and Friday, March 4th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on East 94th (between Ave. K & Ave. L) from 7:30 P.M. to 10:P.M.
Blood Drive: On April 10th our Parish is sponsoring a Blood Drive for the New York Blood Center. We all know how important it is to donate blood and give the Gift of life. Watch the bulleting for more details.
