“No. I don’t like the new system. I’d rather have a conductor and a motorman because it will be unsafe without them, regardless of what they say.”
Jason Dinorcio, Canarsie
Question: With the Canarsie ‘L’ line on schedule to be fully computerized and operating with a motorman, but no conductor, by June, will you feel comfortable traveling by subway?
|“No. I don’t feel safe at all, actually. For one, computers can’t answer questions that I have regarding things like distance, safety, etc. Also, it takes away jobs. And computers are not always accurate when you need the safety.”
Tony Schreiber, Canarsie“No, not at all. I don’t feel safe. With less people on the train, there is more of a chance for trouble. The people who start trouble are more likely to act up with less people around.”
Patricia Aubin, Canarsie“Well, with today’s technology as advanced as it is, they have to have made it safe with the thousands of people who travel the L train on a daily basis. Technology makes it safer. Also, there are probably other cities with automated trains, and I haven’t heard about any major safety problems.”
