Ask BETTY

CantaloupeCantaloupe Dear Betty,

I’ve heard there are certain foods that are tops for good health. Can you tell me what they are?

Salt Lake City, Utah

I talked with our nutrition experts in the Betty Crocker Kitchens, and here’s their “top 10” list of healthy foods. The criteria for making the list? Foods had to be low in fat and packed with nutrition — vitamins, minerals and other health-promoting substances.

1. Water

2. Whole grains and cereals

3. Dark green veggies (such as broccoli, spinach and asparagus)

4. Orange and red veggies (such as carrots, sweet potatoes and tomatoes)

5. Orange-colored fruits (such as cantaloupe and papaya)

6. Citrus fruits and berries

7. Legumes (such as black beans, kidney beans and lentils)

8. Fish

9. Low-fat milk and yogurt

10. Lean beef, pork, chicken and tur-key
