P.S. 115 Students Make A Bountiful Donation

Students at P.S. 115 on East 92 Street turned over more than a dozen boxes packed with canned foods and other goods (photo below) to City Harvest last week. The fourth and fifth graders, under the supervision of guidance counselor Mere-dith Lind, dean Steve Lebowtiz and principal Mitch Pinsky, began collecting the food several weeks ago. City Harvest will distribute the donated food to needy New York City families this holiday season.

City Harvest was founded in 1981 specifically to end hunger in communities throughout New York City through food rescue and distribution, education, and other practical, innovative solutions. Last year it was estimated that donors gave the organization more than 20 million pounds of food to feed the city’s hungry.

Pictured (above, left to right) Lind, Lebowitz and Pinsky are members of the school’s recently-formed Student Council, which organized the food collection: Nieka Cassanova, Diana Shcherbenko, Brittny Gaston, Crystal Powe, Janice Lezeau, Bianca Springer, Lormisha Surin, Remi Gundon, Ameya Grant, Mario Bolageer, Denis Louis, Keturah Charles, Kayla Suther-land and Leah Howard.
